Mr. Peter Savvas was born in Greece in 1943 and emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1968. While in this city, he studied electronics and worked as both an electronics engineer and radio programmer at a Greek radio station for two years. In 1970, Mr. Savvas settled in Vancouver where he remains to this day a very prominent member of the extensive Greek community there.   He is married to Maria Vavaris and they have three adult children.   All members of the family are Canadian citizens.

Over the course of 40 somewhat years, Mr. Savvas has left an indelible mark on the Vancouver audio broadcasting landscape: KGMI AM – U.S.A., KERI AM – U.S.A., CHUB 1570 AM – Nanaimo, CJVB 1470 AM,  KLYN FM, U.S.A. CJJC Langley 800 AM and  CHMB1320 AM just to name a few.

In 1979, he expanded his broadcasting horizons even further, venturing into the television medium, developing a television program which was featured on Multicultural Channel and was also one of the founding producers at Rogers Cable.

In 1987, Mr. Savvas independently established a 24 hour Greek language radio program using a 67KHZ Subcarrier in operation until 2002. It was the only radio station of its kind to operate on a 24 hour basis in all of Canada.

In 1997, Mr. Savvas entered into a lease agreement with both Infosat Telecommunications and with Shaw Cable Ltd. whereby he would provide these programs via satellite to the Greek communities in three other Western cities: Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Edmonton.   These broadcasts differed from those in Vancouver in that they could be received on commercial radio sets by subscribers to Shaw Cable Ltd. The service extended later to Toronto and then Calgary until 2002.

Since 2000, all the above programs continue to be broadcast in a new medium, this time they are streamed on the Internet at the following website address:  http://hellenicmedia.com . Feel free to tune in to CHMB AM 1320 every Sunday morning at 7:00 am and listen to an eclectic mix of traditional and modern popular Greek music in addition to news, entertainment and culture.
